GUTMAR, strategic supplier of F4E

As a supplier of components for Fusion For EnergyGUTMAR leads engineering projects with a high manufacturing component, developing prototypes and parts that will contribute to making a sustainable energy source possible for future generations.

The company has recently completed the production of the supports required for the installation of the reactor's diagnostic cable network. ITEROne of the world's most ambitious scientific projects in the field of nuclear fusion, the reactor will feature a massive vacuum vessel, a steel structure that will house the fusion reaction and will be equipped with multiple technologies to monitor plasma behavior and changes in the magnetic field.

In 2021, F4E signed a contract with GUTMAR to manufacture, assemble, and test components. Three years later, the first series production run concluded with the delivery of the final batch. In total, 11,700 cable ties for sensor cables, 57,000 individual cable clips, and 500 electrical junction boxes for signal sensors were manufactured inside the ultra-vacuum chamber. The volume of parts was so high that several ITER teams had to collaborate on the final inspection and counting before shipment validation.

Ivan Olivella, Project Manager and Head of Innovation GUTMAR highlights the team's ability to adapt to design adjustments and the close collaboration maintained throughout production, which allowed them to deliver all parts on time and meeting technical requirements.

Joan MartorellThe current president of the company points out that “Participation in the ITER project is a further step in consolidating our growth and expansion project and positions us in a new strategic knowledge sector where we can contribute value, but also learn."

With this contribution, GUTMAR reaffirms its experience in projects of high-complexity engineering and its commitment to developing key technologies to move towards a source of clean and sustainable energy.
